Actemra

What is Actemra?

Actemra (tocilizumab) is a prescription drug for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is also approved for the treatment of pediatric juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, giant cell arteritis and CAR-T cell-induced cytokine release syndrome.

How does Actemra Work?

Actemra is an interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor antagonist. IL-6 is thought to play an important role in activating the inflammatory pathway that contributes to the signs and symptoms of RA and other inflammatory autoimmune conditions. Actemra binds to IL-6 receptors, blocking the pro-inflammatory effect of IL-6 cytokines.
