Nucala

What is Nucala?

Nucala (mepolizumab) is a prescription medication used to treat a specific type of asthma called eosinophilic asthma. It is used for patients whose symptoms for this disease are poorly controlled by inhaled corticosteroids.

How does Nucala work?

Patients with eosinophilia asthma have too many eosinophils, a type of immune system cell, in their blood. This may cause severe asthmatic reactions. Nucala is a monoclonal antibody that targets eosinophils and reduces their number, thereby lessening airway inflammation and related symptoms. It is administered by a subcutaneous injection in the doctor’s office.
