Zinplava

What is Zinplava?

Zinplava (bezlotoxumab) is a prescription medication used to help decrease the risk of C-diff (a bacterial infection that can damage the colon and cause stomach pain and severe diarrhea) from returning in people aged 18 years or older who are taking an antibiotic for C-diff and who have a high risk of C-diff coming back.

How does Zinplava Work?

Zinplava is a human monoclonal antibody that binds to Clostridium difficile toxin B and neutralizes its effects, helping to prevent damage to the colon and lining of the intestines.

Zinplava is administered as an intravenous infusion over 60 minutes in a doctor’s office. The most common adverse reactions include nausea, fever, and headache. Speak to your doctor if you have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure (CHF). Zinplava should be reserved for use when the benefit outweighs the risk for patients with a history of CHF.
